Slow Cooker Wild Boar Pulled Pork Sliders

Updated: Dec 31, 2023

pork slinders

I was datin’ me a big ol’ good-lookin’ boy from Dallas once, who was also a big game hunter. Now, he had a friend that, as he non-chalantly put, “Has a little 16,000 acre place outside of Dallas and he wants me to come help him git  rid of some wild boar.” It seems the wild boar were quite a nuisance.  Apparently, they had dug holes all over his friend’s  “little” property and several of his cattle and horses had broken their legs or harmed themselves by accidently steppin’ into those holes.

So, off he went to hunt him down some juicy wild boar pig! I  was also hoping there would be enough to fill up my freezer!  And, sure enough! He brought me so much meat, I thought I’d never stop datin’ that boy!

Dadgum! My  freezer’s gittin’ a little empty. I think I need to find out whatever happened to that good lookin’ Texas boy! In the meantime, enjoy yourself some of these here dee-lish-us wild boar pulled pork sliders!

Slow Cooker Wild Boar Pulled Pork Sliders

Recipe by: Bobbi Jo Lathan

Recipe type: Entree

Cuisine: Southern

Serves: 8

PREP TIME

15 mins

COOK TIME

5 hours

TOTAL TIME

5 hours 15 mins

INGREDIENTS

1 tablespoon olive oil oil

1 (4-6 pound) wild boar roast or pork shoulder roast

½ cup apple cider vinegar

½ cup chicken broth

¼ cup light brown sugar

1 tablespoon dijon mustard

1 cup barbeque sauce (your favorite)

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 jigger of Bourbon Whiskey

½ teaspoon Liquid Smoke

1 tablespoon cayenne pepper

1 extra large yellow onion (chopped)

4 large cloves garlic (minced)

½ teaspoon each of sea salt and ground black pepper

1½ teaspoons dried thyme

1 teaspoon dried oregano

Mini-hamburger buns (slider-style)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Pour the vegetable oil into the bottom of a slow cooker.

  2. Season the pork roast with the ½ teaspoon each of salt and black pepper.

  3. Place that pork roast into your slow cooker.

  4. In a big bowl, mix the barbecue sauce, apple cider vinegar, liquid smoke, and chicken broth. Then, add in the brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, whiskey, cayenne pepper, onion, garlic, oregano and thyme.

  5. Pour that mixture over the roast in your slow cooker.

  6. Put the lid on that cooker and cook on high until the roast shreds easily with a fork, 5 to 6 hours. Is this easy, or what?

  7. Remove the roast from the slow cooker, and shred that beautiful meat, using two fork.

To Serve:

  1. Return shredded pork back into the slow cooker, and mix it into those remaining meat juices/BBQ sauce, and then serve up on your mini-hamburger bun.

  2. OR, put it, as is, on your small, slider hamburger buns and use the BBQ type sauce from the cooker, or just pour some regular BBQ sauce over it. No matter how you serve it up, this stuff is GOOD!
