Honey Garlic Shrimp

Recipe by: Bobbi Jo Lathan

Recipe type: Main Course or Appetizer

Cuisine: American

Serves: 5

PREP TIME

10 mins

COOK TIME

5 mins

(This does not include a marinade time of 45 minutes)

TOTAL TIME

15 mins + 45 minutes of marinade time

INGREDIENTS

1 pound of fresh raw Jumbo/Large shrimp (peeled and deveined)

1 heaping tablespoon of fresh garlic (pressed or minced)

1 teaspoon hot red pepper flakes

2 tablespoons honey

1 teaspoon fresh ginger (grated)

2 tablespoons Tamari

1 teaspoon oyster sauce

2 teaspoons vegetable oil plus 1 teaspoon sesame oil

4 green onion stems (thinly sliced)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. If using fresh frozen shrimp, make sure they are fully thawed, shelled and deveined, then cleaned and patted dry while we make the marinade.

  2. Get out a large mixing bowl and stir together the pressed garlic, the honey, fresh ginger, Tamari, oyster sauce and red pepper flakes.

  3. Add the peeled shrimp to the marinade in the bowl and stir until the shrimps are well coated with the marinade. Cover with some plastic wrap and place in the fridge. (You can also add the marinade and the shrimp together into a gallon zip lock bag, close the top securely and gently turn it a few times on the counter to thoroughly coat the shrimp. Then place in the refrigerator for the 45 minutes to marinate.

  4. Once the 45 minutes is up, get out a non-stick saucepan and heat up your 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil and sesame oil over a medium-high heat. When the oil starts to smoke a bit, then get out a spatula and add the shrimp into the hot oil, in one layer and cook for 2 minutes. After the 2 minutes, turn the shrimp over and cook for another 1 minute on the other side. While the shrimp is cooking on its other side, you can add the marinade left in the bowl (or bag) into the non-stick pan, also. Then, turn off the burner and let the marinade cook down and thicken like a glaze.

  5. Now, serve up your beautiful golden honey garlic shrimp over white rice and spoon over the extra marinade, allowing it to drizzle down over the rice. Garnish with your chopped green onion and serve immediately. Yum!
